Optimizing WSR-88D MESO/TVS Algorithm using WATADS - A Case Study

The 0.5º reflectivity loop, on the right, displays a majority of the tornadic thunderstorms that occurred on 21 July 1995 within 60 km south and west of KMPX. Highlighted on the loop are TVSs which occurred for both the default and optimal MESO/TVS settings. The two TVSs triggered by both the default MESO/TVS settings (TPV=10 and TTS=72) and the optimal MESO/TVS settings (TPV=7 and TTS=35) are depicted by the brown/blue symbol . TVSs triggered only by optimal MESO/TVS settings are indicated by the blue symbol . Note: The related manuscript focused on the number of tornadoes detected by at least one TVS, however many of the tornadic thunderstorms had several TVS detections. The imagery to your right displays all TVSs detected.
